Lapland Deux: Day 3

Our last night in Lapland was also spent in search of the Northern Lights,  We ended up on a small bridge over the Paatsjoki River that flows out of Lake Inari into Russia and ultimately the Barent Sea.  The bridge itself is 1 mile from the Finnish-Russian border.  The river is slightly warmer than the surrounding air so we had quite a bit of mist – but we also had another colorful evening observing the Northern Lights.

Later that night proved to be quite active based on the space weather information at the European Space Agency.  Unfortunately the night became cloudy with light snow so any displays were missed.  Nonetheless we had the chance to see the aurora three days in a row!
